A chairde,
Sitting at my grandmother’s kitchen table in Co. Wexford as a tiny little girl, I learned something magic. I learned that songs and tunes are about real stories and people, an expression of our true selves and of those who have gone before us. The expression can be of joy, anger, grief or sorrow, depending… The magic is there. The magic is in all of us, rooted deep in our core, a pride that runs wild, strong, and free.
I am passionate about sharing this magic with others through the teaching of our music, our dance and the native tongue. My goal is to shine the light and empower others to access the magical gift of the Irish arts through performance and teaching. Buíochas ó chroí to my grandmother; Kathleen Hickey who instilled in me a deep love and respect for our history and culture. Endless hours spent together chatting and listening to ballads & music on the local radio station, practicing my tin whistle tunes over and over like an auld broken record, met with nothing but love and encouragement; “rounds” of ham sandwiches and 7 million cups of milk as I did not like tea back then! She lit the flame that fuelled my journey of Irish music, dance, and the Irish language.
Le meas,
Seána
